Weigh-in for 8/3/2011

Last weigh-in (7/23/2011) : 161.6 lb

This weigh-in (8/3/2011) : 160.4 lb

Change : 1.2 lb lost

I was completely shocked to see a loss on the scale for the last week and a half. Not only a loss, but over a pound! I wasn't tracking, not exercising, and eating out way more than normal (twice on Monday for meeting up with two different friends). I pulled on my weigh-in pants this morning (a very light material pair of shorts) and they felt loose. I was thinking it was all in my head and mentally preparing to gain a pound or two and working the next week and a half in the gym to take it back off, setting me back once again. I am thrilled because I am starting the month off on a good foot and only 5.4 lb from lifetime membership! Only half a pound away from the 150s and though I've been in the high 150s before, I've always bounced back out. This time I'm going to break through and make it to the 140s.

My goal for August is to make it to the lowest I've ever been on the program and that's 157.4 lb. I am three pounds away and will have 3 more weigh-ins to make it happen. This is an ambitious goal because I have to lose at least 1 lb per week. This would make it possible to hit lifetime by the end of September. It's so close I can almost taste it!

July 2011 Stats

Starting weight : 162.6 lb

Ending weight : 161.6 lb

Change : 1 lb lost (average .25 lb lost per week)

This time last year : 179.6 lb

My goal for the month with all of our trips was to maintain, which I thought at the time was a stretch. I lost the only pound right before we started going on trips, but didn't gain anything throughout the other trips during the month, so I was very pleased to have a loss. That's just one step closer to goal.

BBQ Biscuits

1/2 cup barbeque sauce
1/4 cup fresh minced onion
1 tbsp brown sugar
12 oz can Hungry Jack or other brand of flaky biscuits (not Grands)
2 oz shredded cheddar cheese (2%)

Step 1:

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly spray muffin tins. Brown ground beef until thoroughly cooked. Stir in barbeque sauce, onion, and brown sugar, cooking 1 min to blend flavors.

Step 2:

Separate dough into 10 biscuits. Press each to form a 4 inch round. Place each one in muffin tin, making it go up the sides. Spoon about 1/4 cup of the beef mixture into each biscuit.

Step 3:

Bake for 10 to 15 min or until edges of biscuit are golden brown. Let cool for 2-3 min then enjoy!

Weigh-in for 7/23/2011

Last weigh-in (7/2/2011): 161.6 lb

This weigh-in (7/23/2011): 161.6 lb

Change: 0 lb

I couldn't be more thrilled with this outcome on the scale. After two weeks of vacation eating and then only one week to get it back to where it was, I would call this a success. This is a weight where all of my pre-pregnancy clothes fit me, so I have almost unlimited choices, but I'm nowhere done yet.

The Importance of Breakfast

We're always hearing how important it is to eat breakfast, but most of us ignore that advice for many reasons. Some are too rushed to get to work in the morning or they think breakfast foods are bad for you (ex. doughnuts, bagels, etc). I am a creature of sleep, so in high school, when I was only getting 6 hours of sleep each night, eating in the morning made me feel nauseous. I knew that eating breakfast was essential to keeping your metabolism moving, but didn't really think about it too much. Even in meetings, they were telling us that eating a doughnut was better than eating nothing (which most of us would think would be worse).

Recently, something really opened my eyes. I was watching one of my weight loss shows, and the trainer told their client that when people don't eat breakfast, it's called the Sumo Diet, because that's how Sumo wrestlers slow their metabolisms to gain all that weight. That was really scary. Eating every 3 hours is essential to keeping your metabolism going at a good rate all day, even if it's something simple like an apple. I realize this when I skip a snack and then right before dinner, I am suddenly starving and raid my pantry. By the time dinner is ready, I've eaten too much and shouldn't even bother eating dinner. This is why I make a note when I eat so I know that I have to eat in 3 hours.

Steak & Watermelon Salad

Ingredients:

1 small steak per person
cut watermelon
1lb asparagus
bleu cheeses crumbles
mixed green salad
Ken's Light Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette

Step 1:

Cook steak to your liking and steam asparagus

Step 2:

Plate salad, topping with steak cut into cubes, watermelon, asparagus, and bleu cheese. Lightly top with salad dressing. Enjoy!

This is a salad we had a restaurant many years ago in the summer and they never brought it back, so we started making it at home. It's always a big hit.

My Wii Fit Lied to Me this Morning

Weighing in on the Wii Fit is not something I do very often anymore. I used to do it several times a week when I was still using it as my sole means of exercise, but the past two months since joining the YMCA, it's fallen by the wayside. I do weigh myself on it when I want to find out how much Brady weighs, since it weighs him while I hold him, then subtracts my weight. When I first got on to get my weight, before we did Brady's, it said I weight 132lbs (30lbs less than I currently do). This is the first time it's every malfunctioned like that. I started the process all over again and it did give me the correct weight the second time, but I didn't like how it teased me. I would be more than happy to see that weight on the scale if it was true. Not cool Wii Fit.
