Weigh-in for 8/24/2013

Last weigh-in (8/10/2013) : 159.0 lb

This weigh-in (8/24/2013) : 155.6 lb

Change : 3.4 lb lost

Germany weight loss :
12.4lb of 19.8lb gained

Amount needed to get back to WW lifetime weight : 0.6 lbs

I was so excited when I checked my weight this morning, that I jumped in the shower, got dressed, and ran to Weight Watchers to do an official weigh-in!  I almost couldn't believe it.  It's been two weeks since I last posted a weight, so it's 3.4lbs over those two weeks, but still I am excited!  I was able to get my free etools voucher for the first time since January 2011!  This is huge for me.

I'm finally starting to get more comfortable and confident in my appearance.  It's a mental game as well as a physical one.  It's unbelievable to think that I spent five and a half years trying to get to goal before I got there, constantly going up and down in an effort to reach it.  Less than six months after having a baby (starting 3lbs up from when I walked in the door in 2006), I am less than a pound from it.  Granted, I had a bigger motivation this time, knowing what I was missing out on.  Hitting the gym on average 2-3 times per week played a huge roll and although I hate it going in, I can't deny that I love the results at the end of the day.

Izzie will start solids two weeks from today, so I have two weeks left of my breastfeeding powers.  I shouldn't really give breastfeeding all the credit.  Whenever I get compliments on my weight loss and Andy is within earshot, he goes, "Well, she loses it all because she breastfeeds."  I get very annoyed when he says that because he gives the breastfeeding sole credit.  I won't say that it doesn't give a very helpful boost, but I want some of the credit for busting my butt in the gym and watching what I eat.  There are plenty of women who breastfeed and have a very hard time losing weight because they don't know how much to eat and how to compensate for exercise.  It's a fine line I walk, and one that has been learned from experience.  I was certainly not down almost 45lbs with Brady at this point.  I've learned from past mistakes and used that to my advantage.  My goal of hitting my pre-Germany weight is so close and attainable that I can almost taste it.  I have 16 weigh-ins before Christmas and 7.4lbs to go, which means if I lose half a pound per weigh-in, I've got it.  I think the best Christmas gift I could give myself would be to get below that weight and push towards a new lowest weight!

German Weight Watchers

This past Saturday was the first time making it to a German Weight Watchers center and I wasn't sure what to expect.  It was set up where you walk into the meeting room and you had to go up some stairs in the middle of the room to get to the weigh-in area.  I walked into the area where there was a woman standing behind a counter with all the food products because that's usually where the scale is in the US.

A man came up behind me and motioned for me to come to the scale in another room.  He started talking in German, but when I said I only speak English, he switched and I was very grateful to not have to try and figure it out with the language barrier.  I was impressed that there was a man working there, because in all the centers I've ever been in, the employees have always been women.

There was some confusion when it came to giving him my lifetime card and the membership number on it.  Thankfully, I had one of my old monthly passes and he just used that number.  They aren't as sophisticated with computer systems and wrote everything in my book and just had me sign a paper with my membership number beside it.  I had brought my free etools voucher to see if they had something similar, but he looked at me like I had two heads and initially thought the code on it was my membership number.  Guess I'll just have to pay from April to July when I get back and can obtain a new voucher.

I had anticipated the weight being in kilograms and he politely told me, and I reassured him that I could calculate it in pounds myself and that as long as I was under 71.6 kg, I would be under my lifetime weight limit.  It came out to 70 kg, so I knew I was fine.

It was quite an ordeal and a good distance from our house, so I think I will only go the once a month that is required of me and weigh myself at home the other weeks to keep myself in check in between official weigh-ins.

Goals for Germany

Normally, at this point in the month, I would be sharing the goals I have for this particular month. Until we get back to the States, I will refrain from doing that. Instead, I am setting a blanket goal for our entire time in Germany, which will cover the next five and half months.

My goal for our time in Germany is simple, but in a way not so simple. I want to maintain. My last weigh-in was at exactly 150lbs. I would like to stay in that ballpark and if a loss should happen, I would gladly welcome it. On the other hand, I know that the food over here isn't what I'm used to and I will have to adapt. The bottom line is that in order to maintain my lifetime member status, I have to stay under 157lbs. I would hate to think that I could get back up there in that short of a time, but that's something I'm going to have to work on to make sure it doesn't happen.

I will be going to a German weight watchers (it's an international company, so the plan is the same) tomorrow for the first time. We haven't been to an actual meeting in over a year due to Brady not being able to behave in a way that we feel appropriate. We usually go and weigh-in, then leave. That's what we intend to do, but I'm nervous that they won't speak very much English. I also expect that my weight will be measured in kilograms instead of pounds and I will have to convert that later. My lifetime card gets me access anywhere in the world, but I don't know how their system of free etools works. At your first weigh-in of the month as a lifetime member, you receive a voucher for 8 weeks of free etools as long as you are under your goal weight. Since you get one every month, you always have a little extra time, so I'm good through the beginning of April. My concern is that the vouchers here may only work on the German component of the website and since I'm a registered member in the US, it may not work for me. Only time will tell and when it comes time to enter a new code this week, I will try theirs first to see if it works. If not, I'll have to pay from April until we get home, and then get a new voucher valid there.

Coming Soon - Points Plus 2012

This morning I received an email from Weight Watchers informing me that the new Points Plus 2012 program will begin on December 4. As I've mentioned before, Weight Watchers is always evolving the program to make it the easiest and most efficient for members. This will be the 4th change since I've been a member.

The email gave away very little on the details on the new program, but there were a few details that I will share with you all. They are working on making the program more customizable since everyone is different. They mentioned that there will be more flexibility in how you are able to spend your Points Plus budget. They also stated that there will be the possibility of taking a break from tracking for a day or two (most likely similar to what I refer to as my "cheat days"). There will also be upgrades to the activity points and more support on how to reach your exercise goals. The tools available online to members will also be changed to help maximize the benefits.

Like I said, these are not extensive details, but on December 4, they will become fully explained to all members. I will be away at that time, so I probably won't get the info until Monday night at the earliest, and whatever I don't learn online via etools, I will learn on December 10, when I go in to weigh-in.

Weigh-in for 11/5/2011 - Official Lifetime Member!!!

Last weigh-in (10/29/2011) : 152.0 lb

This weigh-in (11/5/2011) : 151.6 lb

Change : 0.4 lb lost

6 weeks of maintain down!!! I am official a lifetime Weight Watchers member! They gave me a new card that will gain me access to any meeting around the world, a new key charm for my key chain, and a gold member book! The key charm is something that is earned after you lose 10% on program and you get charms for 25lb, 50lb, etc, and I also got one when I hit goal in the shape of a star.

The way lifetime works is that I maintain the free status as long as I weigh in at least once a month, no more than 2lb above my goal weight (which for me would mean staying under 157lb). The first weigh-in of the month is the only one that counts for the month. This means that if I weigh-in under my goal at the start of the month and go over the 157lb threshold later in the month, I won't have to pay. I would only ever have to pay if I started out the month over 157lb.

I had great satisfaction calling in today to cancel my monthly pass. Something that comes with the monthly pass is etools, which are accessible via online, my iPhone, and iPad. The etools contain a graph of your weight loss, the ability to track on the go, calculate points for any foods, and recipes. Before we switched to points plus, it was very easy to stay on track and not use the etools (which I never used until after I had Brady). You could calculate points via a slide rule they provided you and you could purchase books with the point values of every food and restaurant. Now there are too many factors in calculating points plus, so without etools, it's very difficult to stay on program. I did some research a while back and found out that I would lose my etools unless I wanted to pay $12.95/month to keep them as a lifetime member. There were a lot of people that were outraged at this since the promise is that you no longer have to pay when you hit lifetime. I figured that I would just use Andy's since his company pays for his membership. The leader told me today that if I can hold on one or two months, they are going to make it free for all lifetime members. This made me very happy, because I rely on my etools, especially on the go with my iPhone.

This week was difficult and I am grateful to have lost what I gained the week before. My next weigh-in will be in two weeks since we will be out of town for a wedding next weekend. That will also be the last weigh-in before Thanksgiving, so I hope I can make it a good one.
